Venice California Information

Located between Santa Monica and Marina del Rey, Venice is a district in western Los Angeles, California. Originally developed in 1905 as the "Venice of America" and once considered to be the "Coney Island of the Pacific," much of its original ambience still remains. The town was originally designed to resemble Venice, Italy with a network of canals and a business district built in Venetian architectural style. Located in Venice is the famed Muscle Beach that offers a number of outdoor activities including basketball courts, tennis courts, handball courts, and an outdoor gymnasium. Like most southern California beaches, Venice offers a mild climate with cool evening breezes.

There is several film studios located both in and near Venice. The streets of Venice, its beaches, and canals have all been used in hundreds of films and dozens of television programs. Films such as "Speed" with Sandra Bullock, "Breathless" with Richard Gere, and the television serious "Baywatch" were all filmed in Venice. Well known for its street performers, artists, and funky atmosphere, Venice always offers something to see and do. Acrobats, artists and craftsmen all can be found strutting their stuff and selling their wares in Venice. In recent years, the town was declared as the "Skating Capitol of the World," with roller bladders and skaters whizzing around the Venice Beach area.

Throughout Venice there are also a number of small shops, theaters and trendy restaurants and the real estate offerings in the town are diverse, ranging from California bungalows and loft-style studios to stately turn-of-the century homes and avant-garde contemporary homes. Homes for sale can be found throughout many beautifully landscaped communities, as well as some vacant land. Venice real estate prices start around $750,000 for condominiums and go up to more than a $1 million. Estate properties are scattered throughout Venice and offer breathtaking scenic views and exquisite architecture.
